Picture this: it’s time to unload the dishwasher. Someone helps, which is great, but the cups end up in all the wrong places. You gently point out where they’re supposed go, but your child gets a little annoyed.
To you, it seems obvious.
You set up the system, and you’ve used it a hundred times.
For everyone else, they see an empty spot, so that’s where the cup goes. They aren’t seeing the reason behind your setup.
That’s where customizing the space helps.
When each shelf is set to the height of what belongs on it, the cabinet gives everyone clues. The customized spaces does some of the explaining for you.
And turning all the handles the same way?
It’s a bit like watching synchronized swimmers or a marching band. When everything faces the same direction, it looks calm and intentional, and it’s easier to notice when something is out of place.
Try it with your kids
If you feel like this tip can improve your cupware organization and maximize your kitchen cabinet, invite your kids to help decide how high or low each shelf should go.
Then, test it out with them. Try taking a few cups and mugs out of the cabinet and see if they can figure out where to put them back.
Let me know how they do!
